Many people think that if you put up a website, everyone will see it. And if you’re selling something -well, you’re just going to make a mint once you’re website is online. But this isn’t true. In fact, it's not even close to what's true. A website can go ‘live’ to the Internet and never ever be seen by anyone except those you've told you're puttin up a site. The reason for this is that a website must be either submitted to search engines or linked to by another site that has already been submitted to a search engine. This is how the Internet works. It’s a net! And if you don’t tie into that net, you’re quite literally out of the loop.
But wait! It get’s even better. Even when you’ve been submitted to search engines, or you’ve managed to have a couple other websites link to you, there’s still one important thing that needs to happen before people really start finding their way to your site: ‘click through’. What is ‘click through’? It’s when visitors to your site actually click through your website, using the links you’ve provided throughout. In this way, links can be either ‘hot’ or ‘cold’. When links are ‘hot’, search engines evaluate the page the link channels to as important. When links are ‘cold’ -well, you get the drift. But the main point here is that your site can be submitted to search engines AND have a hundred sites linked to you, but if no one pays you a visit you’re links will be like ice when the search engine check you out. Can’t make money that way. And this is only the beginning of the mess.
