Once 'LIVE', Your Work Is Finished

A business online can be just as demanding as any other kind of business. Between updates, advertising, keeping on top of your competition, answering e-mails and the phone, and handling your customer support channels, having an online business is nothing less than a full-time job requiring 90 percent of your focus and just about all of your time when dealing with everything yourself. Of course, there are always those who claim that they put up a site and forgot about it, but we’re talking a successful online business, not an actual ‘street-side’ business with a website just to cover the bases.
Once your website is up, the goal thereafter is exposure -lots and lots of exposure. In fact, the more exposure you get the better. And brand-new sites have it the worst. However, the neat thing about the Internet is that once you start getting traffic, it tends to lead to more, which in turn leads to more, and so on. But this will only be the case if the website is continuously updated. Visitors clicking through your website help search engines understand your general relevance within a particular niche. Even a trickle of visitors, as long as it’s consistent, can get you a ranking of ‘2' on Google. But the only thing that will keep them and the search engines coming back is the promise of updates.
Now keep in mind that this is all in the absence of paid online advertising, like ‘pay-per-click’ or buying the top slots in pre-established directory listings. Having said that, if search engines visit you once and then come back and see that things have change because of updates, they’ll stop by a little sooner next time. Visitors will basically do the same thing. And their return traffic on top of what new traffic you may be able to wrangle will show search engines that you’re growing. Keep everyone coming back with fresh, updated content, and the sky is the limit -which ultimately means a rank of ‘10’ on Google. But what does all this updating and promotion mean in the end? Time and hard work. And plenty of it.
